The divine musical Sister Act is in Aberdeen this week, and it's Fabulous, Baby!

The story of a singer who finds herself thrown into a convent for Witness Protection after witnessing her boyfriend murder a man, Sister Act is clearly still as popular as ever.

With an incredible cast, including Lesley Joseph as Mother Superior, Sandra Marvin as Deloris Von Cartier and Lizzie Bea as Sister Mary Robert, the theatre comes to life in a whirr of sequins, colourful lights, music and laughs.

Definitely a show which could lift even the lowest of spirits, Sister Act manages to bring hours of laughs without crossing the line to being intentionally cruel or offensive, promising two and a half hours of lighthearted fun and escapism for audiences in the Granite City.

Sandra Marvin is perfect as diva Deloris, and the same could be said of Lesley Joseph's casting as she paints a wonderful Mother Superior.

One notable absence for me was How I Got My Calling, which was a bit disappointing as not only is it a particularly humorous song - and one of my favourite's from the Sister Act soundtrack - it's also important for giving the audience an insight into the nuns personalities and explains Sister Mary Robert's history.

Without this Sister Mary Robert's outburst (The Life I Never Led) in the second half could be confusing for anybody not familiar with the story and how she came to be at the convent.

Otherwise I'd argue that this week's offering at HMT is almost faultless - Sister Act is the perfect show for anybody looking for a pick up, an evening of laughs or just a few hours of uplifting songs which will inevitably get stuck in your head for the drive home.

You can catch Sister Act in Aberdeen until Saturday, October 12, and for more information and tickets you can visit the Aberdeen Performing Arts Box Office in person or online.
