There is nothing elementary about this week's offering at His Majesty's Theatre with the arrival of classic Sherlock Holmes tale The Hound Of The Baskervilles, however not as you have likely seen it before.

The Hound Of The Baskervilles sees Sherlock Holmes and his accomplice Dr Watson take on the case of a mysterious curse which was placed on the Baskerville family many generations ago.

With only one Baskerville left alive, the duo take it upon themselves to protect Sir Henry and try to get to the root of the unexplainable deaths once and for all.

With a cast of just three and dozens of characters, this adaptation is a whirlwind of laughs and mystery from the off.

The trio of Jake Ferretti (Holmes), Serena Manteghi (Baskerville) and Niall Ransome (Watson) worked together perfectly, feeding off each other's energy to provide a fast paced performance punctuated with simplistic humour that kept the audience engaged and on their toes throughout.

While the comedic twist and decision to break the fourth wall sometimes teeters on the brink of cringe, it largely complements the play's style and is evidently successful in bringing the cast and crew's vision to life.

Ingenious use of costuming and props helps the story to flow seamlessly and it is rarely difficult to identify the different characters, an issue often faced by performances where cast members hold multiple roles.

The highlight was experienced at the opening of the second half and brought bags of laughter to even the most terrified audience member on the moor.

The Hound Of The Baskervilles is in His Majesty's Theatre until Saturday, February 26.
