Proposals were submitted to the Garioch area committee for funding of £15,000 to improve the amenity space at the former Newmachar station.

This would include landscaping the ground and carrying out suitable ornamental planting along with creation of wildflower areas around the old rail tracks.

Picnic tables and ornamental flower tubs could be included including one which is styled like an old steam train to keep with the theme of the location.

Discussions have previously taken place with community representatives and there is a willingness on both sides to ensure that the location is maintained.

During discussions between councillors and officers, items such as repainting of the existing metal work and general site appearance were also discussed including the old railway sleepers which form a make shift fence, of which it was noted were most likely the originals from the line which had been used at some point to create a snow fence to stop drifting onto the line.

Interpretation panels specific to the area are also proposed which will look a the heritage of the line.
