Show president Alan Gaul said: "Since acquiring the redundant cricket pavilion we have undertaken detailed studies, with engineers, architects and local tradesmen who have all ascertained that the building is beyond repair, both structurally and financially.

"We carried out a discussion with local architects AK|A who specialise in conservation however it was deemed unviable to save the building .

"There is water ingress and timber decay throughout and it is a unsafe structure in the middle of the busy show ground .

"Our intent is to ensure that the area is safe prior to the next show and we will then be able to work towards a replacement structure in future years."
