Scotstown Beach is a much-loved stretch of Aberdeenshire’s Coastal route and popular with local families, dog walkers and visitors from further afield.

The car park was created in 1998 but over time the impact of vehicles and a shifting dune landscape means that the surface has become uneven and compacted, leading to poor drainage.

A spokesperson said: "These major upgrade works, the most significant since the car park was created, will address these issues and reconfigure the parking areas to increase separation from livestock that graze year-round on the neighbouring farmland.

"Work is due to begin on Monday March 11 and take three weeks to complete.

"During this period the car park will be closed to the public, as there will only be limited access."
