SSEN Transmission’s plans for the Beauly - Blackhillock - New Deer - Peterhead 400kV project have seen it develop proposals to build new onshore infrastructure between Beauly and Peterhead via Blackhillock and New Deer.

To facilitate these connections, and others as part of the wider strategy, new additional 400kV substations and associated infrastructure is also required in these four locations.

SSEN recently completed consultations on the new substations required for the route, including a new one at New Deer.

In September and October 2022, SSEN carried out the first public engagement on this project where they presented the Corridor Option, a 10km wide pathway through which they would develop their route options.

These events were well attended and feedback helped significantly shape proposals as they move into the routeing phase of the project.

Since then, they have carried out a range of assessments to help inform potential route options which take account of the environmental, engineering, and economic factors they must closely consider.

This includes things such as proximity to properties, environmental designations, existing infrastructure, and historical landmarks.

SSEN Transmission Lead Project Manager Catherine Swan said: “We would like to thank everyone who shared their feedback on our initial proposals for the new overhead line between Peterhead and Beauly last year, which has played a hugely valuable and informative role in helping us move forward and refine our designs for the next steps in our project.

“We are now seeking feedback on our draft route options, with this local feedback and expertise key to help us further refine our plans and inform the more detailed alignments.

"At Peterhead, we’ll also be doubling up with the project team working on the Peterhead Net Zero 2030 site to welcome views on their preferred site selection, following an informative consultation process on the site selection options in January this year. "
