Recognition for Inverurie's best gardens and gardeners

Gardeners galore gathered at the Garioch Heritage centre in Inverurie for Inverurie Environmental Improvement (IEI) group's Best Gardens competition 2023 awards presentation which took place on Saturday.
A dozen entrants of all ages and from all walks of life were welcomed by IEI chair John Glover and congratulated on their efforts.
There was a powerpoint presentation showing the colourful work under the auspices of IEI.
Said John:"Gardening is rewarding on so many different levels.
"It can be a relaxing hobby enjoyed by all ages and groups and is excellent for health and well-being.
"It also provides habitats for pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
"The aim of our Inverurie best garden competition is to draw attention to the contribution gardeners make to the visual quality of the town and to encourage others to do something similar."
He also mentioned IEI's long association with Pitscurry Environment Project were many of flowers and plants start off before becoming hanging baskets and flower boxes
Categories for different types of gardens were judged as Highly Commended, runners-up and overall best garden.
This last, the Inverurie Rotary 50th anniversary cup was won by Elsie Thomson of Don Crescent.
Councillor Marion Ewenson presented a delighted Elsie with her shield.
