THE organisers of a local festival are appealing for volunteers.
Pride in Moray’s David Harrison hopes around 30 people will help make up the event’s stewarding team - on-hand to ensure attendees enjoy celebrating diversity and showing support for the LGBTQ+ community safely.
He explained: “Volunteers’ responsibilities include: ensuring people are on the correct route; allowing for enough room for everyone at the initial gathering point; looking out for people who may have accidents on the route; plus there are opportunities at the main event at Grant Park as well.
"All volunteers will receive training.
"They must be over-18 and attendees under-18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.”
Pride in Moray will be held from 1-8pm on Saturday, September 2.
As well as stalls held by local businesses plus food and drink vendors, there will be performances from local theatre groups, drag acts and more.
A wide variety of entertainment currently includes - a martial arts demonstration from Dominique’s Korean Martial Arts; performances from the Highland Youth Theatre and The Moray Operatic Dramatic Society; Party Kids in costume from children’s films and shows; musicians Sid Innes, Heater and Boys Should Learn.
“There is something for everyone,” said David. “Pride is at its core a protest for LGBTQ+ rights but the Pride village is for everyone to attend and free. Come along and support the community. You don’t have to be under the LGBTQ+ umbrella - you can help a friend or family member be true to themselves ... Even if it’s just on that day, sometimes a day can make all the difference!”
Security at the event will be provided by Granite Elite security with support from Police Scotland.
David confirmed the preparations are going well.
He said: “The support we have received from local businesses has been amazing.
“We are all looking forward to the main event. With just a few weeks to go, it’s very exciting!”
