Asda Huntly staff member George Duncan has been praised for helping a stranded father and his son get home, by paying for their petrol.

George, who has worked at Asda for 11 years, noticed that a man at the petrol station was struggling with the pump, he then came into the store to explain his dilemma.

George, an ambient replenishment section leader at Asda, said: “The customer came in and told me he was having trouble with the petrol pump, and he had just about made it to the garage as unfortunately his car was completely out of fuel.

“He’d put his card in to pre-pay for his fuel and lifted the pump, but his son who was just a toddler was in the car, had managed to unhook his seatbelt and was misbehaving a little in the car.

“The customer was on his own, so he was trying to tend to his son and the petrol pump all at once, but he ended up having to put the pump back to get his son safely back in the seat.

“Meanwhile the transaction had cancelled, but the pre-payment had gone through as a pending payment, which blocked his card from trying again. As it was a Sunday evening, he was unable to sort it out with the bank.”

George did not think twice about helping the man and his son get home, so he offered to pay for their petrol.

George added: “He would’ve been waiting for an hour and a half until someone could come to help, and they lived about 25 miles away from the store, so they were stuck without any fuel or payment.

"I couldn’t leave him stranded with his little son, so I used my card to fill up the car so they could get home.

“He was so thankful, but I was just doing the right thing really, just being a nice human being, doing my good deed for the day.”

Linda Morrison, Asda Huntly general store manager was very impressed by George’s outstanding customer service and said: “What a lovely thing for him to do and a real example of putting our customers at the heart of everything we do.

“He didn’t even tell me he’d done it – I found out by chance, he never thought anything of it, just did it off his own bat.

“I’m really impressed, really great customer service and a fantastic member of the team. Well done and thank you George."
