Postcard fair draws collectors to Inverurie
COLLECTORS, dealers, hobbyists enjoyed Grampian Postcard club's annual fair at the Garioch Heritage Centre, in Inveurie on Saturday.
Afficionados found plenty to delve into, not only vintage postcards but stamps, advertisements and pieces of postal history and a fascinating video by member Mike Stephen recording on old postcards how North-east transport has evolved.
Secretary Brian Watt was happy to note that attendance was up for this year's fair, now its third at the Garioch Heritage centre.
Dealers on hand were pleased to offer impartial advice on options for selling.
Rothienorman couple Gordon and Jeannie Wackett were engrossed in old picture postcards.
Jeannie explained: "Gordon was doing his family tree and discovered a distant cousin John Gordon from Lumphanan had been musical director with the Gilbert and Sullivan company.
"His surname was actually McRobbie but his mother refused to let the name be connected with anything theatrical!"
So they were searching through theatrical postcards in the hope of finding one of this illustrious relative.
Mike Stephen's video records the Wacketts home town originally as Rothie-Norman.
The Grampian Postcard club meets in the Masonic hall, Northern road, Kintore on the second Monday of the month at 7pm.
