The Post Office has announced it is planning to re-open its branch in Inverurie at a new location in the McLeish convenience store.

It will re-open on Monday, February 21 at 9am in the shop at 45-47 Market Place.

The opening hours will be Monday to Friday from 9am to 5.30pm.

A Post Office counter will be alongside the retail offering of the award-winning family run deli and convenience store.

The previous branch at 33 West High Street closed last month due to the resignation of the postmaster.

A temporary postmaster has been appointed to operate this service while the Post Office continues to look for a permanent solution.

Experienced staff from the branch that closed will work at the new location and a range of services and products will be available.

Final preparations are under way to accommodate a Post Office counter in the store.

Post Office network provision lead David Duff said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community. We are delighted to be quickly re-opening Inverurie Post Office.

"We thank the owner of McLeish for providing space within the store. A temporary postmaster has been appointed whilst we continue to look for a permanent solution.”

In an online statement the McLeish store said: "As a family run business it’s important to us that we try and help the community where we can.

"The community has supported us over the last few difficult years, so now we are trying to return the favour."

Inverurie's other Post Office branch can be found in J G Ross Bakers at Highclere Business Park.

It is open from 7am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 9am-5pm on Sundays.

Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin said: "I’m pleased the Inverurie branch will be reopening at a new location in the town.

“Having access to a local post office is essential for many people and we must ensure there is ready access to these services for those who need it.

“I look forward to visiting the new post office and hope a replacement postmaster can be found soon.”
