THE Buckie Lifeboat Day will return on September 3 for the first time since 2019.

RNLI mascot Stormy Stan will be on hand to greet visitors to Buckie Lifeboat Day on Saturday, September 3.

Organisers say that the event will return with a fun and fact-filled programme for all at the town's lifeboat station on Commercial Road.

Buckie’s Severn-class lifeboat, the ‘William Blannin’, and the station itself, will be open for tours hosted by members of the crew.

The RNLI water safety team will be on hand to offer advice on how to enjoy the coast safely – everything from sailing to surfing, from swimming to paddleboarding.

A highlight of the afternoon will be rowing races between the emergency services, competing for the ‘Blue Light’ trophy.

Crews representing Buckie Lifeboat, Police Scotland, HM Coastguard, and Scottish Fire and Rescue have already signed up to race St Ayles Skiffs around a triangular course in the harbour basin.

And the coastal rowing clubs will be offering visitors the chance to try skiff rowing for themselves on the day – training and lifejackets will be provided.

There will be RNLI souvenir stalls and the RNLI’s mascot Stormy Stan will make regular appearances during the day. There will also be food and drink stalls, including burgers by Little Kitchen and ice cream by Little Miss Whippy

Anne Scott, lifeboat operations manager at Buckie Lifeboat Station, said: “We’re so happy to be inviting the public back on board the lifeboat after our enforced break during Covid.

"Buckie Lifeboat Day is back and, with the new emergency services rowing challenge, it’s bigger and better than ever.”

Buckie Lifeboat is also looking to recruit new volunteers to its crew afloat and its support team ashore.

Organisers say that Lifeboat Day is the ideal opportunity to meet current volunteers and find out about opportunities as crew, water safety advisers, education officers, visits officers and fundraisers.

The event will run from 1pm until 5pm.
