Ahead of a general election in the UK for Westminster constituencies which have been revised since the last vote, Aberdeenshire Council is set to bring in changes to some polling areas for subsequent elections.

A report by chief executive Jim Savage which will go before councillors on Thursday looks at several issues caused by the revisions to Westminster boundaries.

They will be asked to agree to the proposed revisions to the existing polling district boundaries for any elections held post 2024, but that they remain as confirmed last year for the next Westminster election which has to take place before January 2025.

It is proposed to merge -

EG0410 (Part Fetterangus) with EG0405 (Maud); EA0411 (Part New Deer) with EA0402 (Strichen); EA0412 (Part Maud) with EA0403 (Fetterangus); and EA0413 (Part Old Deer) with EA0406 (Mintlaw). Part Fetterangus, Part New Deer, Part Maud and Part Old Deer have 0, 28, 6 and 140 total electors of 01/12/2023, respectively.

These polling districts were created to accommodate the 2023 Review of UK Parliamentary Constituencies and will not be needed after the next UK Parliamentary General Election,

EG0708 (Part Fyvie - East) and EG0709 (Part Fyvie - South) with EG0706 (Fyvie). Part Fyvie (East) and Part Fyvie (South) have 16 and 2 total electors of 01/12/2023, respectively.

EG0711 (Part Methlick - South) and EG0712 (Part Methlick - East) with EG0710 (Methlick). Part Methlick (South) and Part Methlick (East) have 6 and 119 total electors of 01/12/2023.

EG0801 (Part Daviot) with EG0802 (Daviot). Part Daviot has 5 total electors of 01/12/2023.

EG0905 (Part Slains) with EG0904 (Slains). Part Slains is a small polling district - 4 total electors of 01/12/2023

The following schools are currently used as polling places in the Aberdeenshire

• Arnage School

• Auchterellon Primary School, Ellon

• Banchory Devenick School

• Buchanhaven School, Peterhead

• Clerkhill School, Peterhead

• Crudie School

• Dales Park School, Peterhead

• Drumblade School Nursery Building

• Meiklemill Primary School, Ellon

• Tough School

While removing all schools from the list of polling places for the Aberdeenshire Council area remains a challenge, the Elections Team will consider any alternative venues as part of its review process and present any viable options for replacement venues in its report to Full Council.
