North East Division crime reduction officer PC Richard Russell said: “Always use two good quality locks, at least one of which is a D-lock, to secure your bike even when stored inside a shed.

“As a ‘rule of thumb’ look to spend at least 10 per cent of the value of the bike on security.

“Secure your bike to the fabric of the shed or garage using a ground anchor and heavy chain and always lock the door.
