Plans submitted to expand Port Paper Shop in Port Elphinstone

An application to demolish and rebuild a retail unit in Port Elphinstone has been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council.
The Port Paper Shop on Elphinstone Road has been owned by HM Singh Enterprises since 2017, who took over an already established newsagent and convenience store business.
It is a small single storey retail premises, with the limited space becoming increasingly apparent during the coronavirus pandemic when staff and customers wished to maintain appropriate social distancing while in the shop.
The plans would see the shop floor expand to cover 69 square metres, with storage moved upstairs to an additional storey (approximately 35 square metres), a significant expansion compared to its current 57.2 square metres housing shop floor, storage and staff amenities.
The applicant identifies a number of benefits should the proposal be allowed to go ahead, including improved accessibility for all but especially buggies and those with limited mobility, and the opportunity to increase the range of items stocked for customers, overall greatly improving customers' shopping experience.
