A LONG-TERM Huntly and District Pipe Band member gave an interesting talk to members of the town's probus club.

Pipe Major Hamish Dean, who has been with the band for 36 years, gave a talk to Huntly Probus Club.

Major Dean's family have been involved with the band since it started. Mrs Dean, of Dean's Shortbread, started making shortbread to sell for the band funds.

The pipe band started in 1947 as the Ex-Servicemans Pipe Band, before changing its name several times over the years to get its current name.

Ladies were introduced to the Band in 1976 and at present there are 20 pipers and 20 drummers, although they do not all play at the same time.

They have played in several countries including France, Belgium and Spain, as well as at the Braemar Gathering and at Balmoral for Queen Elizabeth II.

The next meeting of Huntly Probus Club is on Thursday, April 27, at 10am at Huntly Golf Club.

Colin Shepard is giving a talk about Druminor Castle Excavations, which is near Rhynie.
