Hardy swimmers welcomed the new year with a dip in the sea at Banff Links as they took part in the eighth annual Banffshire Loony Dook.

With the tide fully in it did not take them long to reach the icy waters on the beach during the event which was held at lunchtime on New Year's Day.

Swimmers of all ages took part and many had colourful costumes on as they took the plunge.

The dook is organised by the Banffshire Coast Swimmers which was supported by the local Coastguard team.

This year's event raised money for the Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance emergency service.
