A TRADITION that started during the coronavirus lockdown continued at Gordon Primary School at the end of term as the school's departing primary seven pupils marched to The Gordon Schools.
The idea of holding a leavers parade was formed during lockdown as a way of giving the primary seven pupils, who had missed so much due to Covid, a chance to say proper goodbye to the school.
On Friday, July 7, pupils once again marched to The Gordon Schools, where they were met by head teacher Phil Gaiter.
Donna Crawford, depute head at Gordon Primary, said: "The weather was with us on the day and the children marched wonderfully.
"We started this during lockdown because our P7s missed so much. We gathered at the Cooper Park and paraded up the avenue, in small groups at the time.
"Since then we have continued the parade as a way of sharing our memories and passing them onto Mr Gaiter, who has always attended to welcome his new S1s.
"The school have done transition days but it is so nice for the pupils to be accepted on an individual basis."
The parade was attended by proud parents, who were given the chance to get photographs of their children, individually and in their school houses, under the arch of the Simpson Building.
The march itself was led by Joshua Higginbottom and Freya Johnson, the captains of the winning house, which was Falcons this year.
A poem was recited by the primary sevens, before the pupils were handed over from Gordon Primary's head teacher Deborah Ewan to Mr Gaiter.
