HUNTLY residents have joined forces with Interfaith Aberdeen to create a joyous celebration in honor of Scottish Refugee Week.
The You, Me and a Cup of Tea event, organised by dedicated locals along with Interfaith Aberdeen, Police Scotland, and the Scottish Refugee Council was created to mark refugee week and foster connections between local people, refugees and asylum seekers.
Inspired by the Scottish Refugee Council's successful initiative, Cup of Tea with a Refugee, the team at Interfaith Aberdeen decided to create several similar events in their community and the Huntly event was a clear success.
Patricia Findlay, Chairperson of Interfaith Aberdeen said: "The idea was to bring local people, refugees and asylum seekers together and to try and break down some of the barriers and counteract any negativity by helping people to understand each other and get to know each other a little more.
"The Huntly event was amazing and very well received. The hall was completely full, there were no seats left and we had lots of local people and international people. It definitely did break down some barriers and lots of people were chatting, which was exactly what we wanted to do. It was really great to see."
