Early rain on Sunday did not put off those taking part in the Methlick Cycle Challenge.

The popular event returned and there was a choice of three routes for cyclists to tackle.

The first to set off was the 69-mile challenge which took participants along roads, forestry tracks and the Formartine and Buchan Way.

The second 42-mile route saw cyclists bike near Mill of Elrick, Drumwhindle, Ythanbank, Udny and Haddo House.

The final cycle was 23 miles long and provided a test for those new to the activity or wanted to take on a shorter distance.

The event was designed for people to challenge themselves rather than a competitive race.

All the routes started and finished near to Beaton Hall and there was a chance for participants to meet up afterwards and have a burger and a beer at the village's cricket ground.

The event is also a fundraiser and local beneficiaries over the years have included Royal British Legion, Methlick School Parent Council, 1st Methlick Scout Group, Methlick Football Club, Ythan Valley Rotary Clothing Bank and the community's church.
