The Buchan Battalion of the Boys' Brigade and Girls' Association celebrated The Queen's Platinum Jubilee with a special event.

The members and leaders welcomed Deputy Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire Kate Nicolson who helped them plant a tree at Strichen Community Park as part of The Queen's Green Canopy initiative.

A sponsored walk was carried out by all the companies in the battalion setting off from either Lonmay or Maud to raise money for the minibus fund and when they arrived at the park an afternoon of activities was held.

Companies that took part included those from Fraserburgh, Rosehearty, Sandhaven, Strichen and New Pitsligo, with nearly 100 young people taking part.

Activities that were held during the afternoon included football, volleyball, welly throwing, the tyre challenge and other events.

The families of the young people were also able to attend during the afternoon and enjoy picnics and refreshments at the community park.

A similar event was held by the battalion to mark The Queen's Diamond Jubilee 10 years earlier.
