SCHOOLS across Banff celebrated their favourite books and authors for World Book Day recently.

The annual event is held on the first Thursday in March to give every child and young person a book of their own.

This year's offering was the first to be celebrated in person since the pandemic started.

Banff Academy held a 'Squad Challenge' where pupils decorated doors in the theme of a book.

Squad Capaldi took first place for their Lord of the Rings themed door while Squad Stormzy and Squad Spongebob took second and third for their Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired doors.

Teachers from various departments also got involved in the action by dressing up as some of fiction's most iconic characters.

Children from Macduff Primary School took part in various activities as well.

The school's P5M class created a 'Starbooks Cafe' which encouraged the kids to sample different genres of books before reviewing them.

Meanwhile, Aileen Clark, the school's P6/7 teacher dressed up as the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz with one of her students standing in as Dorothy.
