This year's Huntly Garden Competition, organised by Huntly Community Council, saw judges pore over the fine details of many the town's relaxing hideaways, before making their "very difficult" decisions.

Awards were presented to the winners last Friday (August 11).

Community Council chairman Tony Gill said the judges had been thrilled with the level of quality during their (Sunday, July 30) visit.

"They were very impressed with all the gardens nominated and it was evident that a lot of time and effort had gone into their gardens and a joy to be seen," he said.

"It made it very difficult to decide on the winning gardens.

"We had a great day that Sunday and the weather stayed dry and warm, ideal for judging the gardens."

Taking responsibility for judging the gardens were Katrina Flad of garden design, landscaping and maintenance firm Frock n Wellies, local gardening enthusiast Fiona Murray and Shona Newlands from the Community Council.

The Bonniest Garden prize went to Jenny Smith, of 4 Bleachfield Street

While Sam Simpson, of 3 Farquhar Drive, won plaudits to claim the Best Hanging Baskets and Tubs title.

Best First Time Entry went to Christine and David Blades, of Bin Toll, Deveron Road.

And Best Community Garden, was awarded to the Alexander Scott's Hospital Eventide Home, on Gladstone Road.

The award was collected by home gardener Neil Bain, matron Katie Williams, Mary Whyte and Mary Meldrum.
