Two Buchan groups will receive a share of council funding following approval from councillors.

Peterhead’s Apex Church and Strichen Playgroup both applied to the Area Committee Grant Scheme in a bid to get cash for new equipment.

Strichen Playgroup applied for £1707 to buy 16 new chairs and three tables.

The new furniture will replace the group’s existing tables and chairs that are more than 15-years-old.

Strichen Playgroup regularly use their furniture for snack time and for other activities including play and crafts.

The new wooden furniture would create a “warm but practical” environment for play and exploring.

It would also give a safe surface for eating that staff can clean afterwards.

The playgroup say that the new facilities would benefit youngsters by giving them a “comfortable seat and a safe table to work on”.

It is hoped that the furniture could even spark a conversation about sustainable materials and their impact on the environment and climate.

Meanwhile the Apex Church in Peterhead requested £4714 to buy a portable generator.

The generator will ensure a back-up power source is available to the Apex Community Hall should there be a power cut in the future.

Church members say the generator would also help to create a warm space for vulnerable users of the hall.

It will be stored and maintained at the church so it can be utilised as quickly as possible.

Both of the applications were considered and unanimously approved by the Buchan area committee on Tuesday.
