MORAY Council has warned people to avoid a road in Dufftown closed after a landslip last week.

Workers on site at Low Road in the village are concerned about the number of walkers visiting the area to have a look at the damage caused by the landslip on Wednesday, January 13.

The road is closed to vehicles, and pedestrians and cyclists are also being asked to stay away from the site, given the precarious nature of the embankment and the risk of trees falling.

Assessment of the damage is complete and repairs will get under way once the council appoints a contractor.

To ensure people's safety, the road will remain closed until repair work is carried out.

A council spokesperson said: "The Low Road in Dufftown remains closed as the embankment is unstable.

"We expect this temporary closure to be in place until repair work is carried out.

"We’d also repeat our message that, for public and our staff safety, vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders must avoid the area for the duration of the closure."

The landslip occurred on council-owned land between Church Street and Low Road.

Traffic is being redirected to use Church Street.
