The pavilion in Fife Park will be demolished unless somebody comes forward with a viable use for it.

Moray Council's corporate committee heard today that fears have arisen the building's flat roof might collapse.

The committee's chairman Bridget Mustard said: "The Fife Park pavilion is surplus to operational requirements having closed some five years ago following many of its historical users moving to alternative locations in Keith.

"The condition of the building has deteriorated to the extent that there are now serious public safety concerns.

"To address these concerns the building will have to be brought back into use at a cost of £35,000 or demolished for a similar amount."

The meeting agreed that the building should be made available to the community, with the council paying for the necessary repairs which are not expected to cost more than £35,000.

Councillors also agreed that if no viable proposals come though within a month of the opportunity being advertised, then the process will begin of getting the pavilion demolished.

Cllr Theresa Coull (Keith and Cullen, SNP) said: "I'm delighted the Keith and Fife Keith community are being consulted.

"It's unfortunate that the pavilion has got into this state of disrepair, but it is what is.

"I agree that if no suitable offers come forward then the property should be demolished for safety reasons because it is pretty bad. "
