Parents battle in vain to save Portgordon pensioner

PARENTS taking their children to school at Portgordon Primary School yesterday (Monday) morning rushed to try and save a pensioner who was found lying on the ground outside the building.

The man in his seventies was discovered to have sustained a head injury and CPR was applied until police arrived on the scene.

An ambulance later took him to Dr Gray's Hospital but he later died despite all efforts to save him.

A spokewoman for Police Scotland said: "Emergency services were called to the Richmond Place area of Portgordon at around 9am [on Monday May 27] after a concern call was received for a man who had been found injured.

"The 79-year-old was taken to Dr Gray's Hospital but sadly died a short time later.

"Following initial enquiries, there are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."

Police later interviewed a number of parents , with the school offering support as required. Many of the parents were desribed as being left "shaken" after the incident.

A spokesperson for Moray Council added: “Following an incident yesterday outside Portgordon Primary School, the headteacher has written to all parents to offer support to parents and pupils. The school library was used as a waiting area for those being interviewed by Police Scotland.”

A letter has been issued to parents by Portgordon headteacher Karen Murray regarding the incident.
