Moray MP Douglas Ross has promised to keep concerned constituents fully updated in relation to SSEN’s plans for Blackhillock 2.
Moray MP Douglas Ross has promised to keep concerned constituents fully updated in relation to SSEN’s plans for Blackhillock 2.

SSEN plans to build the Blackhillock 2 substation by Drum Farm outside of Keith.

The development would be the third major electricity infrastructure project near the Moray town in recent years, along with the first Blackhillock substation and a battery project.

However, the proposed location for the new substation has seen many locals express concerns citing the location's close proximity to a nursery, two schools and other places of interest.

The extended consultation period closed on May 5. SSEN say that the feedback from this will help inform which of their potential substation sites they will take forward.

And Mr Ross added that he will continue to relay the concerns of his constituents and keep them updated on what SSEN are planning.

Mr Ross said: “SSEN’s plans for Blackhillock 2 have understandably provoked strong feelings among the communities that would be the most affected.

“That is why it was vitally important that the consultation period was extended and I was pleased SSEN listened to the calls from myself and the community to do so.

“These plans cannot progress unless they have the support of local people and take their concerns fully into account.

“This post-consultation update from the company was helpful in order for me to update my constituents about the next steps.

“I am pleased that so many local people took the time to make their views known to SSEN and ensure that they will have a lot to review in the coming weeks before announcing the next steps with respect of Blackhillock 2.

“I will continue to relay the concerns of local people to SSEN as well as simultaneously keeping local people updated on any updates SSEN provide to me, to ensure the local community are at the heart of this project, whatever the ultimate outcome.”
