Sunday saw the first Gig 4 Garioch event take place online, with local talent preforming live on Facebook raising over £1600 for local good causes.

Gig 4 Garioch was a one day live show set up in aid of raising money and assisting local charities during these difficult times.

Several local charities are trying to really make a difference to those in true need in the times we are all going through at the moment and it was decided by the organisers to support Home-start Garioch, Aberdeenshire North Foodbank, Garioch Community Kitchen and For The Love of Garioch.

Accordionist/Keyboard player Murray Cowie from Inverurie, who took part, playing traditional Scottish, country and popular music, said: “It was great to be part of something through which we, as local musicians and entertainers, were able to give something back to those in need in the Garioch community, and the total amount raised for the charities, and indeed the event itself, shows the generosity and, above all, community spirit of the garioch folk at this particularly challenging time.”

Another performer was Scott Mellis, guitarist and singer from Inverurie, who played a variety of fun high energy songs also commented: "A big thanks to everyone who tuned in online, on Sunday to watch all the performances, and who donated for the charities.

“It felt great to be a part of something that goes towards the community”

Alan G Gardener “the Singing Santa” said: “I was delighted to be asked to contribute, and really wanted to put something into the community that might be appreciated.

“Raising money for locally based charities really appealed to me, and I would love to take part in other similar events.

“Being a self-isolating “oldie” it helped me feel involved and still a part of the world!”

The online gig has raised a total of £1600 so far, but the total is still rising.

Home-start Garioch, one of the charities benefiting, said: “We would like to thank the organisers and performers for a fabulous day of entertainment.

“It’s kept us entertained from start to finish.

“It was lovely reading some of the comments during the performances.

“I think it lifted a great many peoples spirits.

“Finally thank you to all who donated.

“It’s a hard time for many just now so it’s means a lot that you have supported the event.”
