A FORMER shop in the heart of Huntly will be knocked down to make way for two new homes.
Mr K Marshall applied to Aberdeenshire Council last year seeking permission to demolish the old Strathbogie Saw Service shop on Bogie Street.
Local authority planners granted Mr Marshall Conservation Area consent for removing the former store last month.
But now he has been given the green light to replace the existing building with two semi-detached town houses.
The former saw shop has been lying empty for a number of years, however the site will now be transformed following approval from council chiefs.
The homes will be two-and-a-half storeys high.
Each one will have an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining space, three double bedrooms and an office.
Two off-street car parking spaces will be provided for the new residents, while each home will also benefit from private garden ground.
The approval comes despite an objection claiming the development would create a loss of privacy and sunlight on surrounding residents.
It also slammed the proposal, saying it was an “inappropriate design” for the Huntly Conservation Area.
However, council planners gave the plan the go-ahead saying it would not have a negative impact on the surrounding streets or the conservation area.
They also said the new homes were of an “appropriate” size and design for Huntly town centre.
