The AXIS Centre in Newmachar has undergone an energy efficiency audit.

Councillors at the Garioch area committee will be asked next week to approve pre-allocated funding for work at four local community facilities.

In June last year, the committee agreed to allocate £20,000 of the Strategic Budget towards energy efficiency in Community Halls.

Each hall that subsequently applied to the fund had a site visit by two officers from the Energy Management Team.

The officers assessed the halls’ current use of energy by examining the previous 12 month’s bills and reviewing areas within the building where improvements could be made.

The officers then sent each hall a detailed report with recommendations for works that could be carried out and asked for quotes to be obtained for the work.

Four halls have sent quotes totalling £16,774.

The first was the Ashdale Hall, Westhill where opportunities were identified for LED lighting, pipe/water tank insulation, upgrade of heating controls and reflective radiator panels.

The quote they have received for £2,720 is for LED lighting and a upgrade of heating controls.

The Milne Hall at Kirkton of Skene's application looked at LED lighting, double glazing / draught proofing windows and doors and a potential opportunity for infrared heaters.

The quote they have received for £4,858 is for the replacement of LED lighting.

Kintore Village Hall also looked at LED lighting, pipe/water tank insulation, upgrade heating controls, reflective radiator panels, infrared heaters, and a potential opportunity for double glazing / draught proofing windows and doors.

The quote they received for £4,195 is for LED lighting, water tank insulation, upgraded heating controls and lower wattage heaters with automatic time switch.

The fourth site, the AXIS Centre, Newmachar look at LED lighting with a potential opportunity for a PV Diverter.

The quote they received for £5,021 is for LED lighting.

Some funding remains from the total allocation and will be used towards any further applications in February.
