North-east charity Befriend a Child is calling on people across the area to take on the Return of the Inferno Firewalk Challenge this March.

The fiery event, taking place at Aberdeen Science Centre, will challenge participants to walk across hot coals to raise funds for local children and young people living in difficult life circumstances across Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire.

The charity helps more than 250 children annually, matching them with trained volunteer befrienders and mentors who provide friendship, stability and fun.

Befriend a Child relies completely on grants and support from the community to ensure it can continue providing its vital services, and currently has more than 50 children on its waiting list.

Sarah Misra, CEO at Befriend a Child said: “The Inferno Firewalk Challenge is a great way to try something new and have fun while raising much-needed funds for Befriend a Child.

"We’re looking forward to welcoming all participants, their support will ensure we can continue making a difference to children and young people in our local communities.”

The event takes place on Saturday, March 2 from 5.30pm and is sure to take the chill out of the cold March air and keep participants on their toes.

Firewalkers will be guided through a motivational workshop where fundraisers will mentally prepare for the challenge and receive their safety briefing from Firewalk Scotland.

Entrants are asked to pay a £25 registration fee to cover the costs of the event, with a £100 minimum sponsorship.

Not only will all participants walk away with a huge sense of achievement, but they will also receive a Hall of Flame certificate and Befriend a Child t-shirt.

Claire Bain, senior fundraising coordinator at Befriend a Child, and seasoned firewalker said: “I have taken part in firewalks a few times and it’s such a fantastic experience, I’d highly recommend giving it a try.

"This is the second time Befriend a Child has brought this event to Aberdeen, and we hope there will be lots of individuals and teams ready to take on the mental challenge.”
