North-east cattle are judges choice at Turriff Show

A busy Turriff Show saw competitors from across the north-east, Moray and further afield show their cattle across a wide range of breed categories as they bid to take breed titles and the opportunity to go head-to-head in the interbreed championships.

No10 the champion Aberdeen Angus, Kilmallie Juggernaut Eric. Picture: David Porter

In the Aberdeen-Angus the champion title went to Caroline Morton, Dunfermline, with (no10) 15-month-old bull Kilmallie Juggernaut Eric, by HF Rebel, out of Kilmallie Jury Eric and the reserve to Brailes Livestock, Moreton-in Marsh, with two-year-old Carbery Urban Boss.

British Blue champion was (no 84) from Finlay Hunter, Insch, with 14-month old heifer Solway View Secret and the reserve went to Sarah Balfour, Tomintoul, with yearling bull Old Stackyard Blues Samson.

Charolais champion (no 93) and eventual interbreed and show champion of champions came from AJR Farms, Ellon, with three-year-old home-bred cow Newlogie Royal Eclipse with the reserve going to Brailes Livestock, with September 2021-born heifer Gower Sequin.

Highland cattle champ (no 117) was from Balrownie Farms, Brechin, with February, 2021-born heifer Catriona Akeko of Balrownie with reserve to Morag Middleton, Fettercairn, with six-year-old bull Eoin Mhor of Black Glen.

Limousin champion (no152) came from Aileen Ritchie, Whitecairns, with January 2021-born in-calf heifer Lowflan Suzie and the reserve came from The Davidson family, Keith, with 17-month-old Corsairtly Troy.

Beef Shorthorn top honours went to (no 193) by Brenda Wear, Falkirk, with 16-month-old Dunsyre Gigha 42 and the reserve went to David and Tom Bradley Farmer, Dumfries, with 13-month-old bull Meonside Saint Thomas.

Simmental champion came from Reece and Andrew Simmers, Keith with (no 206) three year old Brandane Lu Lu, the reserve went to John and Sandra Middleton, New Pitsligo, with yearling bull Hollywell Nairn.

Any other breed champion was presented to Martin Poyser, New Aberdour (no213) with two-year-old Hereford bull Milovaig 1 Vindicator and the reserve to Alison Watt, Keith, with seven-year-old cow Strathisla Maxine.

Cross-bred beef cattle saw a champion win for (no 246) Blair Duffton, Huntly, with 23-month-old Welsh bred Limousin cross heifer named Pepsi. The reserve went to the Robertson family, Tomintoul, with 16-month-old Limousin cross heifer Lucky For Some.

The interbreed championship title was held under the judging of Dougie McBeath from Stirling, selecting Charolais champion Newlogie Royal Eclipse as his champion and Simmental champion Brandane Lu Lu as reserve overall interbreed.
