Drivers in the north-east are being reminded that surfacing improvements on A96 to the north of Huntly will begin from Tuesday, June 11 and are planned to run till Wednesday 19.

The project, which Amey is carrying out on behalf of Transport Scotland, will address defects on more than 750 metres of the A96 road surface near the village of Cairnie.

Works will be in place from Tuesday, June 11 till Wednesday 19.

Work will take place between the Cairnie junction and 520 metres south of Windyraw junction.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the essential maintenance will be carried out initially under overnight convoy and temporary traffic lights during weekdays, followed by a full weekend road closure of the A96.

Overnight convoy working will take place between 6.30pm on Tuesday 11 and 6.30am on Wednesday 12.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place between 6.30am on Wednesday 12 and 7.30pm on Friday 14.

The full weekend road closure of the A96 will then be in place between 7.30pm on Friday 14 and 6.30am on Monday 17.

Due to restrictions on the classification of diversion routes, northbound traffic will turn left onto the A920 at Huntly, proceeding onto the A941 at Dufftown and following the route to Craigellachie. Traffic can then turn right onto the A95 and continue to Keith. Southbound traffic will take the route in reverse.

There will then be further overnight convoy working between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night, on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18. Traffic management will be removed by 6.30am on Wednesday 19.

All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
