Newmachar United Juniors FC were one of the latest teams to take part in the 24 Hour Challenge which has been ongoing during lockdown.
The challenge involves each player running for an hour over a 24 hour period to raise funds for local groups and charities.
Newmachar United Juniors chose to raise funds for The Axis Centre.
The Axis Centre, owned and run by the Newmachar community is a facility which supports a number of local community groups and aims to promote opportunities in culture, learning, sport, leisure, health and well-being.
The team donated £1000 from the funds they raised from the 24 Hour Running Challenge to the Centre to allow The Axis Centre to get ready for opening back up again as restrictions are easing so that they can put in the necessary adjustments to allow people to use the facility as safely as they can and to build a safe environment for all who use it.
General manager of The Axis Centre Leanne Vaitkus-Murphy said: "Everyone here at the Axis Centre is extremely grateful to Newmachar United for their hard efforts.
“This has come at a difficult time for the centre during lockdown, and will go a long way towards helping us to reopen in a Covid Secure way, so that the people of Newmachar can once again benefit from their centre and the activities we can offer.
“Thank you team, You are super stars!"
Newmachar United Juniors captain David Black added: "The Axis Centre is vital to the community and like so many other local community halls it a meeting place that offers so much for all ages so we were more than happy to raise much needed funds for the centre during these difficult times"
