STEEL poppies were erected at Newburgh Mathers as part of a school project to mark Armistice Day.

Pupils worked with local artist Jane Bradford to paint the fixtures using shades of red metal paint, which will remain on display permanently.

A number of poppies will also be placed in a trail around the village in forthcoming years.

The finished articles were put in place by construction firm KR Group (Scotland).

A spokesperson for the company said: "We work closely with Newburgh Mathers School and are partnered with Ellon Academy through the Developing Young Workforce initiative.

"We are always looking for opportunities to involve Young People to learn about construction and have a presence in both of these schools.

"We are happy to help especially as the school is in our community."
