Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership (AHSCP) has developed the hub in what was formerly Gordon villa, a unit which cared for people with dementia.

It had lain redundant for over 20 years but has been given a facelift to create a warm and bright setting for the vaccination hub.

What were previously the two wards are now a reception and waiting area and the treatment room which has four vaccination stations.

There is a separate room for anyone prefers privacy and for baby and children vaccinations.

In addition to the internal decoration work, work had to be completed to instal, ramps and railings to comply with disability legislation.

A team of 12 operate the hub, five days per week and are also go to care homes to adminster jabs there.

People from the Alford, Strathdon and Keith areas will attend the hub and well as the Huntly and Strathbogie areas.

The hub is part of a wider strategy for all jabs to be delivered by a dedicated vaccination team in designated centres.

The bulk of work currently for the team is booster jabs to people aged 75 and over and children in the five to eleven years category - both by appointment only.

Going forward, flu jabs will be administered at the centre and all childhood vaccinations will be done there.

Jabs for overseas travel are delivered by local pharmacies.

Friends of Jubilee Hospital contributed towards the cost of the building upgrade and chairwoman Fiona Murray said: "We are pleased that Huntly Jubilee Hospital was identified for this hub and happy to help support the refit. It is a lovely building and it was sad to see it lie redundant.

"If people come from out and about for their jabs, we hope they then go into town maybe for a tea or coffee. Huntly was chosen for its central location."

People attending the vaccination centre should park at the Market Muir and follow the new, designated path right to the door where there is a hand activated entry system.

Only disabled badge holders can park on site.

Friends of Jubilee has also recently provided two urine analysis machines.

Diane Barbour area support manager said: "We cannot thank the Friends enough for the money they gave towards the creation of the vaccination hub and their ongoing support for all levels of healthcare at Jubilee Hospital and in the community."
