SAINT Andrew’s Day celebrations were well underway at Milnes High School on Friday, with a whole school event to mark the day of Scotland’s patron saint.

The event has been organised newly qualified teachers Erika Stewart and Raegan Fielding who were inspired by their own time at school.

Erika said: “Milnes was actually the school I came to as a pupil and while I was there we did a huge ceilidh around the bus turning circle outside and we really wanted to do something to showcase staff and pupil talents and have a bit of fun. All the teachers were really up for it and the pupils were so excited.

"We also wanted to involve the whole school, something similar to what we did when I was in school. All the other teachers were really involved and were really up for it and we’ve had lot of enthusiasm, the pupils were all so excited to do it.”

Students were piped into the hall and got to enjoy a staff Scottish talent show, music and Scottish dancing.

The event finished with a short talk on Scottish history and tradition and pupils enjoyed a quick ceilidh, with music from the Milnes fiddlers and shortbread baked by the HE department.
