Specially created Rainbow Biscuit baking kits for kids to help raise funds for additional care packages for NHS workers and awareness for the NHS, are now on sale at selected Tesco branches in the north-east.
All profits from the biscuits will go towards providing care packages, which will include items like toiletries and toothpaste, for key frontline NHS workers through SalutetheNHS.org, allowing the NHS to focus on saving lives during the COVID-19 epidemic.
Each pack contains a tube of white icing and a sachet of multi-coloured sprinkles which kids can apply to grooves in the rainbow shaped biscuits and then decorate as they wish.
Tesco food developer Kaysha Keane who helped design the biscuits said: “Not only will the biscuits raise money for care packages for our heroic NHS frontline workers but they will also raise awareness among youngsters of the life-saving work being carried out by them.
“The rainbow has now become a symbol of hope and support for our brave NHS workers, especially for children who have been painting pictures to put in their windows.
“We hope that parents may also use the opportunity of helping their youngsters make the biscuits to discuss the amazing work being carried out by our NHS.”
Tesco will use all profits from the sale of the biscuits to go towards funding food in the SalutetheNHS.org meal packs.
The SalutetheNHS.org initiative provides nutritious ready to eat meals for ICU teams, anaesthetic workers and A&E staff who are unable to leave their clinical areas during their 12-hour shifts.
