The Marr area committee of Aberdeenshire Council agreed the new funds.

Applications had been made to the Marr area committee budget.

They were considered and unanimously approved by councillors on Tuesday (October 11).

Organisers of the Ballater Winter Festival will get £2,000 to help secure a carousel, helter-skelter and stall for this year’s event.

The popular annual festival is held during the last weekend in November.

This year it will feature an outdoor market, indoor craft fayre, a movie night for adults and Sunday matinee for youngsters.

Santa and his elves are also due to make a special appearance.

Marr Area Partnership will receive £2,000 to set up a log bank.

The partnership is looking to stock up on firewood that will be made available to residents this winter.

They have proposed that referral to the log bank would be made through the Aberdeenshire South Foodbank and Marr Area Community Food Initiatives.

The partnership say the log bank is a “short-term fix” for those who need a helping hand to heat their homes.

Finzean Community Association will be awarded £800.

The money will go towards wall repairs at the village play park.

Cromar Community Council will get £750 to buy new Christmas lights for The Square at Tarland.

The current festive lights are more than ten years old and are beginning to break so the money will help the village shine this Christmas.

Meanwhile Aberdeenshire Council will get £905.60 to buy barbecue bins for Potarch Green.

The steel bins are specifically designed to deal with the safe disposal of hot ash and disposable barbecues.

It is hoped they will help to reduce fires in the area.

Councillor Ann Ross said they were “all very worthy of our support”.

Meanwhile councillor Sarah Brown said: “They all offer a range of different facilities and services in the area so I’m happy to support.”
