ABERDEENSHIRE'S new flag has been hoisted in Huntly for the first time.
The gold and purple flag fluttered above Aberdeenshire Council's Huntly office on Saturday, June 3.
And special guests, including Aberdeenshire Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Major Grenville Irvine-Fortescue, came out in force for a short ceremony marking the occasion.
Huntly Community Council chairman Tony Gill, along with Major Irvine-Fortescue, performed the flag-raising honours atop the Gordon Street Council building, soundtracked by David Landale from Huntly and District Pipe Band.
Locals of all ages enjoyed the public spectacle, taking place between from 10.30am to 11.30am, with young people from The Huntly Scouts, Huntly Guides, Huntly Rainbows and Huntly ACF Cadets getting involved.
Aberdeenshire Provost Judy Whyte, local councillor Jeff Goodhall and a number of Huntly businesses and organisations also attended the event.
Describing the ceremony on social media after the event, a spokesperson for the Aberdeenshire Lieutenancy said Saturday had been: "a perfect day for the Aberdeenshire County Flag raising ceremony in Huntly."
And added that the "special occasion" made for "a hugely enjoyable day".
Both guests and the public were treated to a short address from Major Irvine-Fortescue about the flag, designed by Aberdeenshire primary school pupils and bearing a castle and crown at its heart.
After the flag had been raised, guests heard about restoration work at No 30 The Square from the Huntly Development Trust's Carolyn Powell.
As the ceremony coincided with Huntly's monthly Farmers’ Market, the dignitaries seized the opportunity to chat with and buy from a selection of local producers.
