A CHARITY CEO, who himself benefits from the charity's services, has signed up to go the extra mile in this year's Aberdeen Kilt Walk.

On behalf of North East Sensory Services (NESS), Graham Findlay is leading the way to encourage as many people as possible to join him for the famous fundraiser on June 7.

Over 3000 Kiltwalk heroes are expected to wear their kilts with pride for an absolutely unforgettable day to raise much needed funds for their chosen good causes and Graham - as well as everyone who benefits from the fantastic work NESS does - very much hopes that like minded friends will sign up as part of TEAM NESS.

At 53, Graham is himself registered blind with the condition Retinitis Pigmentosa which is a progressive sight loss condition.

Retinitis Pigmentosa is a group of rare genetic disorders that involve a breakdown and loss of cells in the retina.

Currently Graham has around 8 percent useful vision and is currently in a tunnel vision state, unable to see anything in poor light or the dark.

Yet, despite the difficulties Graham faces day to day, he lives the NESS mantra of achieving independence for blind and deaf people.

As CEO of NESS Graham’s job takes him all over the UK, not only as a representative of NESS but other charity bodies in London also.

He remains an independent traveller all over Scotland with his long cane, which requires specialist training from NESS Rehab staff, and Graham is also a regular runner with a sighted guide over 10K and half marathon distances, so is very much looking forward to the 15 mile Kiltwalk stint in aid of the charity closest to his heart.

NESS is celebrating an amazing 140 years of improving lives with the main aim of achieving independence for blind and deaf people.

It is the first integrated joint sensory service in Scotland and delivers much needed information, equipment and support.

NESS would not be able to do everything that it does without the support and generosity of their friends, the businesses that NESS works with and the dedication of their team of volunteers.

To join TEAM NESS for this year’s Kiltwalk you can register at www.thekiltwalk.co.uk - thanks to The Hunter Foundation each Kiltwalker’s fundraising receives an extra 50 percent donation.
