THE family of little Alfie Mackintosh who tragically died last week after taking ill at his Nairn home have thanked family and friends for their support.

Eight months old Alfie, the son of Nairn County footballer Wayne Mackintosh (26) and his partner Lauren Gordon, was rushed from his home in Sutors Avenue, to Raigmore Hospital but sadly died.

HIs parents said yesterday: "We would like to thank family and friends for their support since Alfie’s sudden and tragic death on Friday 26th April. We have been overwhelmed by the support from the local community which has helped at this difficult time.

"We would ask that our family’s privacy be respected at this time."

The Nairn County flag will be flying at half mast and players will wear black armbands when they face Rothes at Station Park tomorrow night. There will also be a minute silence before kick-off.

The cause of the little boy’s death has not been confirmed, although there is speculation he may have contracted a form of meningitis.

The match against Wick Academy, scheduled for Saturday, was postponed until 8th May. There was also a period of silence ahead of Clach’s home game against Keith on Saturday.

County chairman Peter Mackintosh issued a statement, saying the players, committee and fans were devastated.

"The sympathy of the club goes out to both families at this tragic time," he said.
