Highland aim to keep winning run going
HIGHLAND go into tomorrow’s Caledonia League Division Two North encounter against Banff at full strength with an almost unchanged squad.
The main concern for head coach Davie Carson ahead of this encounter at Canal Park will be getting his players focus right in terms of treating the visitors with the same diligence that has produced three big wins from their opening three league matches of the season.
Matt Allan and David Titteringham come back into the Highland squad, but are likely to have to begin the game on the bench. The only player missing for the hosts will be Simon Stephen, who is unavailable.
Highland are sitting at the top of the table with maximum points and it is almost certain that another competent display will yield another five points.
Banff have struggled on the road so far this season at Stornoway and Shetland, yet they got a timely boost with a home win over Ross Sutherland last weekend, so Highland will have to be wary of a side that might be a bit more confident.
Highland’s second team had been unable to get a games fixed up before the Courier went to press, but the search for a friendly was still continuing.
Meanwhile, Highland’s under-18s will hope to be back in action tomorrow as they have a match away to Glasgow Hawks in the Under-18 National Youth League.
The postponement of last weekend’s match against West of Scotland was a big disappointment for coach John Carson and his players, who had began the campaign impressively.
There is the possibility of a disruption in momentum, so that will be the main concern ahead of this weekend’s fixture.
On Sunday, Highland’s under-16s are looking to keep their winning run going as they travel north to take on Orkney. This always proves a difficult match and with both sides unbeaten so far, it is likely to be a close game.
The under-15s also sat idle last Sunday and they too will hope this will not affect their winning streak when they make the journey to Aberdeen Grammar — a game that might just provide a pointer to the eventual league winner.
