Selection quirk puts triplets on opposing sides
MORAY triplet sisters are set to clash hockey sticks on the field of play after being chosen to represent different area teams.
Milne’s High pupil Jenna Morrison has been chosen to play for North region in the Scottish Hockey Under-15 Inter District championships this weekend, while her sibling Erin represents rivals Highland in the same group section.
The 14-year-old Urquhart sisters will even be in direct opposition when the two teams meet at the National Hockey Academy in Edinburgh’s Peffermill on Sunday.
A third Moray girl, fellow Milne’s student Rachel Brain, from Mosstodloch, has also been selected to play for Highland, and the three teenagers all play together at Quasar Hockey Club in Kinloss.
Head coach Pete Bavidge said he had been led to believe Highland – which covers the area from Keith to the west – would not be entering a district squad this year, but North would.
Jenna was subsequently chosen as the only Moray girl to represent North’s under-14 squad. It later transpired that Highland were in fact entering the championships at under-15 level, and while Jenna’s North representation ruled her out of selection for a different area, both Erin and Rachel were picked for the Highland select.
“Being two of a set of triplets (with a brother Ewan) you can imagine Erin and Jenna are really close, so it will be strange for them playing on opposite sides,” said coach Bavidge.
“Erin is a forward and Rachel plays defence, so they are almost certain to come into contact at some stage.”
The sisters’ big match-up takes place at 11.50am on Sunday when Highland and North clash in their second group matches, both aiming to qualify for the later stages of the competition.
