By SPP Reporter

A tough trip to Inverurie Locos awaits Buckie Thistle in this year's Aberdeenshire Shield.

Buckie Thistle's goalkeeper, Kevin Main, sinks to his knees dejected as he watches Keith's Derek Smith celebrate with the fans after scoring the winning goal during Saturday's encounter at Kynoch Park.

Thursday's draw also gave Keith an away trip to Aberdeen, with last year's beaten finalists Cove Rangers their likely opponents.

This year’s shield is being contested earlier in the season, with first round matches scheduled for October 8 and 9 and quarter-finals planed for November 5 and 6.

Buckie are in action in that first stage next month, visiting Locos with a home clash with senior side Peterhead the reward for the winners.

Last season's runners-up Cove are expected to overcome junior opponents Banks o' Dee and if they do, they host Keith in the last eight.

The semis and final are set to be played next February.

Draw, first round:

Inverurie Locos v Buckie Thistle

Aberdeen University v Fraserburgh

Deveronvale v Turriff United

Cove Rangers v Banks o’ Dee

Quarter-finals

Cove Rangers or Banks o’ Dee v Keith

Inverurie Locos or Buckie Thistle v Peterhead

Formartine United v Huntly

Aberdeen University or Fraserburgh v Deveronvale or Turriff United
