MORAY Council has started installing play equipment at Grant Park that many parents claim is dangerous.

The popular climbing frame at the children’s play area is being replaced and a second-hand tower slide is being erected alongside it.

The plans were heavily criticised when the Gazette carried a story about the plans in January revealing that there were seven leg breaks and a number of accidents on the same slide while it was in use at Brodie Castle.

However, a Moray Council spokesperson confirmed the equipment, suitable for five-12-year-olds, complies with British Standards EN 1176 and 1177.

She added: “Once it’s been installed, signage will be put on the unit advising users how to use it safely.

“Installation should be complete within the next couple of weeks.

“It’s planned to move the old slide to Elgin - a toddler climbing frame/slide will replace it.”

Forres In Bloom secretary Sandra Maclennan argued against the installation at Forres Community Council meetings earlier this year, claiming that the existing frame at Grant Park is adequate.

She said: “It is taking some time to install the slide and it is creating much interest at the park.

“Time will tell how popular it will be.”
