DVD reviews: Cars 2 (U) 2/5

By SPP Reporter

OH dear. A visually-exciting film, high on volume and with lots of characters that have zoomed off store shelves nationwide should deliver more than this.

But CARS 2 seems stuck in second gear, unable to catch up with the leviathans that are its Pixar label mates, Toy Story, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.

This time Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) takes part in a new world grand prix – taking in Tokyo, Italy and London.

However, things unravel as Lightning and his buddy Tow Mater (Larry The Cable Guy) get caught up in a spy plot as Mater gets mistaken for a key CIA man and gets roped in by Brits Finn McMissile (Michael Caine) and Miss Holley Shiftwell (Emily Mortimer).

Mater’s patter’s meant to be dopey, but it turns out just dull, dull, dull.

That said, there’s no doubt that, just like the last one, it will still be on repeat for the next three months in our house. Can’t wait. PAB
