Tolbooth secrets out
THE big green door will be unlocked on the Forres Tolbooth this week and an invitation extended to the public, to come in for a look around.
The listed building is being run under the guardianship of Forres Heritage Trust, who have future plans to increase it’s potential as a visitor attraction and restore it as the centrepiece of the town.
Long term plans include accessing funding to carry out a number of improvements, including instaling disabled access and creating a cafe area; a planning application is currently pending with Moray Council for internal alterations at the facility to provide an accessible WC.
Meantime, the trust volunteers are inviting members of the public to come along between 10am and 4pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (May 16, 17 and 18) to find out more about the old building.
Volunteers will be on hand to provide information, show people their collection of whisky-related artefacts and give guided tours around the old building.
There is also a chance to have a look at Forres from the past, as the old rent office will be the venue for a display of old photos, of the Forres area, from the collection put together by Franny Duncan, Ross Dalziel and Ray Mills.
