Police seize £90k worth of illegal drugs
NORTHERN Constabulary has taken over £90,000 worth of illegal drugs off the streets of the Highlands and Islands in the lead up to Christmas.
The activity was part of the ongoing Operation Ram – an intelligence-led operation targeting drug dealers operating in local communities.
Cocaine, heroin, amphetamine, ecstasy and cannabis were hauled off the streets as well as over £7000 cash seized, suspected to be the proceeds of drug supply.
The December operation included searches of 26 properties and resulted in 74 individuals being reported to the procurator fiscal; 11 for drug supply, three for cannabis cultivation and 60 for drug possession offences.
This builds on the success of a number of drugs operations undertaken over the last 18 months in which Northern Constabulary has taken nearly £1 million worth of illegal drugs off the streets.
“This recent enforcement under Operation Ram shows our commitment to previous pledges to continually target those involved in drug dealing and organised crime, to seize assets obtained from criminal activity and disrupt their ability to operate,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mark Mackay.
“Information received from members of the public has been crucial in the course of our investigations and has contributed to these successes.
“I again ask for this continued support and for anyone with information about drug dealers in their local area to contact us or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
